Metal Lion Lamp: Origin and Age?

Hello!

This was a recent auction purchase. Was only a few dollars, so not much of an investment. Obviously, it is a lamp base; however, I have not been able to find anything like it. I am most curious about its origin and age, if anyone has any ideas.

The lamp itself is metal, with screws behind (but not connected to) the lions, which was likely for whichever shade it came with. No marks on the lamp base anywhere, unfortunately. The socket is branded S&S and the cord is cloth, although the plug has been previously cut off.

Any help is appreciated!

 

I searched and came up empty.
Only guessing ... 1920s/30s with a possible religious themed glass panel.

 

Was wondering if this was not ‘made-up’ ? Something (like centre piece,mascot or ornament)that was converted into lamp. The general look makes me think of a old hood ornament (but I know it’s probably way to big for that)

 

I think Roaring is right. The cloth-wrapped wire points to pre-WWII. I'd bet there was a glass panel in front of the light that's now gone. Frosted glass, probably.

A glass panel would definitely make sense--the screws could hold it with pressure. Obviously not the same, but this is the closest I've been able to find so far (and panel like this one's might even look decent on mine):
