African beadwork - Maasai wedding collar?

    This one is from the attic. Very cool, probably Maasai, looks old. A Maasai wedding collar? At a guess not a tourist trade item.

    There are many of these on ebay. I clicked a handful that are similar to yours in construction and immediately got descriptions that said their items were purchased by them as a tourist item "15 years ago" and another that said theirs was "reproduction."

    You can see photos of the same type of necklaces on display and modelled in this Trip Advisor listing for the Masai Craft Market. You can also buy them online from a number of shops. So it does seem to be a thriving tourist craft trade.
