I purchased this German cabinet, but the seller only mentioned that it was bought in Belgium in the 1990s for ten thousand dollars and didn’t have additional details.

Based on my research, it seems to be a 17th-18th century Hamburg cabinet, which may have been cut in half and shrunken sometime in the 19th century or earlier. It’s constructed with wooden pegs, mortise and tenon joints, and hand forged nails. There are also filled-in woodworm holes, And signs of a previous restoration or two. Is my conclusion correct?

Wood doesn't look right for this. Looks more like a Southeast Asian hardwood. I do like the fact that there is some pine secondary woods. Kind of hard to tell what we are seeing with some of your pictures. Very well could be an antique but I am thinking Colonial in origin and 19th century. I am by no means an expert in this type of furniture, so wait to see what others have to say.

I agree the photos aren't completely helpful since the closeups don't tell us what part of the piece they are from. I'm just going out on a limb here because I'm not a furniture expert, but...Looking at the detail on the front and then comparing it to the rough way it was put together is concerning. In my experience, well made furniture is consistent throughout. People mistake roughness for age and that's usually not the case. Quality furniture that's older was more expensive and thus made better. That's true of jewelry as well. People often post pieces that are primitive looking and think it's because they are older. Again, this is only my opinion based on a few photos.

I'm even more convinced that the front and back don't match up with Baroque. I agree with Brad - SE Asian contemporary. Use of low quality wood in the parts you can't see with fancy front.

The back resembles others from the period though. It looks like a workshop assembled it with leftover parts from older ones. And I don’t think the lock looks SE Asian.
