I went to an antique store last Friday and unloaded a pile. On my way home, I stopped in the ReStore and found a blue and clear swirled bowl. The much (rightly) maligned Google lens solved its mystery - Kosta Boda. On Friday I went to a local charity thrift a friend runs and found no jewelry worth buying. But on a table, formerly overlooked, were some wooden candlesticks. David Linley, so signed.
Talk about things I never thought I"d see in a New England thrift, sitting unpriced on a random table. IMG_0351.jpg kostaboda.jpg

THe site is in GBP and there aren't any sticks in the current line, but I'm not surprised he has a website now.

The Kosta is the ourobouros signature.

That Linley is a very very nice find indeed.

    Some finds:

    2 'alebrijes' from Oaxaca:

    IMG_2585.jpeg

I think this is a vintage Oregon coast postcard that's been fancied up with some dried seaweed and paper to look like vegetation. Interesting for $5:

    IMG_2586.jpeg

And the second one of these I've ever found, also from Oaxaca (I think).

There's a small crank on the side. When you turn it all the figure raise their arms, the seated figures raise their legs too, and the doggie wags his tail. "Night of the Matachines" ( traditional dancers).

I think the postcard was souvenir art back in the day. I've seen that work before.

Whoops! I knew they were good but not that good.

    Nice all.
The only thing I found this year was in my change. I found an Italian coin. I have been getting a lot of coins because the fruit market gives me back a lot of change. I have to go thru it and see if I have any thing of value... probably not.

Hit an estate sale this week, and it hit back. The old incisional hernia scarring (and holes) are making me pay for a few weeks. That said... I resized and saved the photos but the uploader can't see them. So, here's the tea caddy from Thursday and two things from today. I went to a local thrift while Mom was in the library and there sat a coin bank from a savings and loan, and some Bear bait. The lining in the purse is shredded, no surprise, but the beading is intact. $20 for the tea box and US$5 each for the purse and bank.

Found 'em. The scar-killer was the brass inkwell. No liner and no whodunnit. 1928 shortwave instruction book that was published maybe five miles down the road. Korean wedding duck - no idea why. The cup isn't marked. The little mesh bad had a greenie, alas. No idea what the beagle is made from. The red beads look like prystal but are wayyy too light. Testing required. I think the bracelet is elephant hair or some such. Amber earrings. WWII-ish bird pin in sterling. The brown thing is a measuring tape in a holder; it looked useful. The mezuzah is brand new, never hung.

I ordered my son one for his new house a few years ago we were flabbergasted it came with out one. When he called the company where I got it apparently they are extra. It was a first for us. So I sent him some from a local place by me.

Thanks. Thought so. I have no idea what they sell for, but it cost pennies and was cool to see.

Yep - surprised me. The back is sealed. I've never see one sold with the scroll before.

OTOH I"ve never seen them sold together. Somewhere in this mosh pit I have an envelope with printed scrolls in it; I went to the estate sale of the family that owned the local Judiaca store and rescued them. The ones I've found have all been sold without the scroll, presumably so you could get a proper hand-written one if desired.

I agree. I haven’t bought them in years since I have been in my house for so long. I had a supply from my grandparents. I only bought when the kids moved out. When my son bought his first home he asked for nice more adult one ( he is a snob) so I went online figuring it would have been faster. The last few I purchased came with scrolls & the one he brought me from Israel did as well.

@evelyb30 i didn’t realize scrolls could be printed vs hand done. Good to know. Mine are all old with the exception of the one I have from Israel. Since they are sealed I guess I will never know.
