    Hi all.

Im wondering does anyone have any knowledge of this type of object and can help id this for me?

It measures approx 2ft in height.

I think the base is made out of wood ,the eagle plaster and the sphere over the eagles head thin glass .

There is a document of some sort stuck underneath thr base dating to 1899.

    Thanks for any help or coments. 20250204_174941_resize_42.jpg 20250204_174948_resize_29.jpg 20250204_175002_resize_11.jpg 20250204_175022_resize_74.jpg 20250204_175041_resize_38.jpg 20250204_175055_resize_12.jpg 20250204_175904_resize_32.jpg 20250204_175414_resize_77.jpg

Here in the Netherlands such large coloured glass spheres are called 'heksenbal', witch's ball. In former times people would put them in the garden to make sure a witch would be so attracted to the pretty colour and mirror effect that they would gaze into the ball all night and not enter the house.

Well, I'm likely very wrong, but it looks like someone has made a one-off with various pieces. It just doesn't look cohesive.

The eagle looks like it should be on top of a flag.

That's what I was thinking. It's also been repainted.
