    Bought this online yesterday:
    2 saucers:

    and one small bowl

    I think it's Mikawachi ware.

Belonged to the seller's grandmother. Kept in great condition for many years...

    And ...

this is how the saucers arrived, thanks to DHL

Only the bowl survived the journey.
It wasn't expensive, but still, in this case:
    I HATE DHL!!!!! :mad::rage:

Sorry that happened to you, Marote, but in my opinion, you should point the finger at the seller, not DHL. They should have packed these to survive Armageddon. Double boxed, and more than just the small bubble wrap (if that was the case). That stuff does nothing unless you wrap it around to be 3 inches thick.

    :arghh: Oh Marote!:bigtears:
The seller is to blame, really. We all know that DHL et al throw boxes around and let elephants do a little dance on them.
Sellers need to quadruple wrap and double box their items. Put in a claim with the seller.

    Sniped by sabre.;)
But we both speak the truth, not DHL but the seller is to blame.

It was indeed not double boxed, but still reasonably well packed with bubble wrap and extra cardboard around it to protect it. And it happened before delivery, as I waited for the courier at the door, to receive it in hand and avoid the usual drop-on-the-floor delivery :shifty:

They really must have let elephants dance on the package, as they also managed to break a razor blade sharpening stone :(

Most dealers I have seen fix ceramics in foam boxes to prevent them from moving at all tho

I have a large metal basket just below my letter box, and a sign on my letter box saying to please place parcels in the basket. 99% of delivery people do just that. I get the feeling they are happy that I have a special basket for deliveries.

I think that is a Chinese custom. It works perfectly, but we in Europe prefer to use less styrofoam etc for environmental reasons.
Germany even has a law banning all plastic etc wrapping in parcels. Sellers have to use paper and cardboard. I'm pretty sure other EU countries will follow.

The problem here would be that they don't 'place' things, but simply drop them
A few days ago I, apparently, wasn't fast enough in getting to the door, and the courier had dropped the package in the waste paper container. And as it didn't have anything else in it, I had to turn the whole container upside down to get it... And if I hadn't seen him putting it there, it would probably have stayed there and be taken to the recycle center a few days later, because he didn't even leave a note telling where I could find it.

Okay don’t know that’s plastic haha. Whatever is used, it’s just necessary to hold the piece tightly and no space to move. Ceramics are completely different matter from other objects, once it’s damaged the whole thing is done.

They used to do that here as well, until I came up with the basket solution.;) It really works 99% of the time, I can recommend it.
I bought the basket on Marktplaats for 2 euro, the best 2 euro I ever spent.:)
He was looking for a basket to put it in, and found the next best thing.:D

My brother found a parcel in his garden waste wheelie bin, among the rotting leaves.:playful: He said "at least it was safe".
They never leave notes, takes too much time. We pay for the service to have it hand delivered in person, but don't get our money's worth. And the delivery people are underpaid in spite of the money we pay, so they don't bother.

I still contend that if there was adequate [cushioning] packing around them, they would've arrived unbroken. I'm really partial to mover's packing paper. You can bunch it up and wrap it thick enough to create an excellent cushion.

    Agree. The seller's responsibility.

Seller didn’t pack well enough. That needed bubble, then tight taped cardboard, then more bubble , then a stonking solid box.

I always say "pack to withstand being used to play football", or "withstand nuclear detonation" if the person doesn't get the footie reference. If you don't... game time! The USPS has the same reputation.
