Prystal is translucent/transparent catalin, aka "bakelite". The real stuff is dark brown or black, but catalin is called bakelite too. Painted bakelite happens, and the paint interferes, but catalin reacts. Solid red sometimes won't, but the translucent version will. It was used as a cherry amber substitute.

I'm with the hubs. Skunks eat bugs. Just keep the dogs away! I had a cat who went nose to nose with a skunk once. She was a tuxedo and none too bright. She and the skunk just sort of sniffed each other, said "nahhh", and walked off. Dogs aren't that bright.

BTW - brown and black bakelite don't react much if at all to chemical tests either, so they sometimes fool people. The only thing they respect is a dremel, I'm told.

Are these pieces heavier or lightweight? I had a necklace like yours didn't test for bakelite, I posted it here, thoughts were it was resin...very lightweight.

They should be quite heavy,or heavier than they'd look.

Thanks. I look for good hair, makeup, no green ear, neck splits, body/face damage.

Charity shop, £1 for beads, £2 for pendant which may be silver.
@KSW had some beads similar with the same links.
Bengel style, the two large green glass beads are uranium glass, the others look the same but don’t light up.

Not sure how this works. I have a Fred Macey stackable bookcase. Based on the Macey emblem I daste it sometime prior to 1908. The Macey name is in script and the tail of the "y" underlines the Macey name. It also says "This Section Is Number 2-B" It also list all the country in which the company has patents. The cases are in excellent condition with the exception of the backing. The backing that is on the inside of the cases is in good condition it is the plywood backing that holds that backing in place that is splitting away. Trying to determine the value. I have been told anywhere from $3e00 to $400. Richard Barlett ([email deleted)

1.Welcome. 2. Despite what Google says we don't normally do values on the site. There's too much variation depending on location and condition. It would help if you started your own thread in the right area, and read the instructions for uploading pictures. It would help us point you in the right direction.

Going rate here, in very good condition at retail, in the Midwest is about $100 per stack + an additional $100 for the top and bottom. Location and selling venue makes a difference, as does condition. You might get more at retail in or near a large city. Significantly less with condition problems in Podunkville. At auction or in other wholesale venues will also be less.

Local auction. Selling online for something this heavy is a recipe for going backwards.

Hi all! I found quite a few interesting things at a ReStore this week (the Meissen pieces being the most exciting in a separate thread). I also found a Royal Crown Derby vase sold through the jeweller, silversmith and retailer J.E Caldwell & Co in Philadelphia- I haven't been able to figure out a specific artist yet but it is very pretty! It dates to around the 1880s. The second item I found is (I think) a Regency tea caddy with original glass which is nice! I haven't had a chance to research either properly yet. If you have any additional info on either it would be much appreciated thanks! :)

Ha, yes they did! I think it must have been a collection of someone who really loved quality ceramics, sad really.
