    IMG_3905.jpeg IMG_3901.jpeg IMG_3900.jpeg IMG_3908.jpeg IMG_3907.jpeg IMG_3906.jpeg So, I got this pendant for not much money in a bit of a junk lot.
Its a lovely silver and plique a jour Jugendstil pendant.
Sadly, it only has one side-drop.
And since its delicate material, I think there is no possibility to attach a second drop even if I found one.

If I had to guess, I would think this pendant was made in Pforzheim maybe, although the junk lot came from my own country, Belgium.

There is one marking next to the bail, but I cant decipher it.
Maybe one of you guys knows this mark?

A friend of mine suggested to just 'drop the drop' but I dont feel ready for it yet.
So, what do you think about the missing drop?
And can anyone decipher the mark?
    Thank you all!

    It is a beauty, Dessert.
Belgium would be my first choice, but it could be one of its Continental neighbours.

Is the oval indentation on the back a mark?
And what are the two blobs on the back of the large round setting? Maybe a multi-purpose jewel at one time?
I agree, but only if you feel up to it. It will still look beautiful without any side drops.
I feel there is a discrepancy between the coral(?) dangle on the bottom and the garnet glass(?) at the side.

AJ, you did notice the cool but a bit shabby Vallauris plate in the back, didn t you? i love me a fake wood pattern :cat:

The oval thingy on the back is no mark, just some odd 'air hole'. The other side has also a hole, although a bit smaller
The two blobs are just plain blobs.

And yes, it certainly looks odd with only one side drop, I know :(

But I get a bit of stressed out thinking about 'ruining' its original state...
Its a mind thing, I know. I ll grow over it eventually.

I understand, I get that too sometimes. But the fact is that its original state was already altered before you owned it (not ruined), and the central part has such a good and dominant shape that it looks fine on its own.

But.... you can still take it to a reliable jeweller and ask them if it can be repaired.:)
    No rush.:)

Maybe, replace with two other matching dangles might be easier than finding a to match the original. I think gray or green pearl might work pulling the colors from the design at the top. Of course it is now would be altered, but wearable.

The problem is that there is no loop to attach a replacement to. It has broken off.;)
It would, but the pendant would look like a repro because the pearls would look new. And green pearls certainly didn't exist at the time the pendant was made.
But there is still the issue of the missing, broken loop.:(

AJ, indeed, the loop is missing.
I will find the courage to 'drop the drop' eventually.
But I ll take it to my jeweler to ask if a laser welder could do anything for it first.

Indeed, it works just fine with only the coral drop.
Ah well, for the price I payed, I should just be happy and dont nag about details like that.

You are always allowed to nag about details like that.;) After all, you are a custodian of antique jewellery, and as such it is to your credit that you want it to look as authentic as possible.:kiss:

    Komo, thanks for the tip!
I could probably do it myself.
But do I want to change it even more?
Ehmmm I need some time to think about it. I m in no hurry.
Thank you for the idea though!

Just looking, I'm wondering if the garnet is original, and if it's even a garnet. The back is closed, which is odd for a faceted gemstone. I'd almost bet this had three corals originally and one bailed.

A laser solder job could add a ring if you wanted to replace the side drop, like @trip98 said. Then you could find 2 matching drops to add on, maybe in green or blue tones. Add a third similar one to the bottom?

Exactly, nothing worst than modern chinese pearls hanging from a wire as dangles on antique pieces:vomit:

I agree. I love coral, but this sweet little dangle looks out of place and too small. Moving the garnet (glass) to the bottom would make it look more in keeping with the strong lines of the overall design.

    Ok, an update:
    I agreed with you all
The coral looked small in comparison to the design.
I put the garnet color glass there instead and it already looks better
(For everyone wondering: its just cabochon cut glass, but I think its original since the other 'stones' are paste too).
My heart couldn't let me get rid of the small hook on the side, but I have time to get used to that idea.:wacky:
It already looks so much better like this!
    Thank you everybody!
