    Hello,

I bought this ring for 7 euros on a small varieties auction. I was wondering if people might have guesses on dating. From other rings I saw it gives me a 18th century vibe but I wouldnt trust myself on attributing a date.

And if its modern, not big lost so appreciate any input :)

The construction could be 18th century. Where did you find it (country)?

The second photo isn't very clear. Could you put the ring down on a white piece of paper or something like that and take a photo?

It looks like a detectorist find.

Looks darn primitive to my untutored eye.

In appearance it's not inconsistent with iron soldiers' rings found in places that were once under Roman occupation. I'm not sure how to interpret the design on it, whether it is the impressed quatrefoil or the relief cross that is significant. The incised hash marks make me think it is more likely the quatrefoil, but...? I think Medieval is the latest, not the earliest date for it.

Thank you all for you input, as it is the case in such decontextualized items, opinions may vary and I appreciate taking the time to look.

A person very experienced with rings that i consulted with, advanced the opinion that it is a circa 17th century possibly pilgrim ring due to style to the popularity of the maltese cross with such folk and at those times. Whether older or more recent than that, quite happy with the find
