Hello, I grew up in the town that Thomas Paine lived for a period- thus my name. Also grew up in a house full of antiques mostly bought at auction, and had family in the biz as well. My Mom died on January 5th, and I have been cleaning out the house since as it still has a mortgage (at age 80, can you believe it?) so I didn't have much time to avoid the constant flow (flood) of various emotions that come with such a task. A lot of her good stuff had to be sold some 20+ years ago, but still have been finding some interesting pieces packed away, which I helped pack some 20+ years ago- talk about getting depressed about the passage of time and how some of us kinda get "stuck". C'est la vie! It's fun at times as well- as I've never went through a period of not appreciating "old stuff", although a lot of the things I've been re-connecting with aren't what I've been buying, selling, and using over all these years; but I feel like it has stirred up an interest, as well as stirring other things. I look forward to reading the forum.
So sorry to hear of your (recent) loss. And thank you for joining us. You're very welcome here. Debora
Thank you for the warm welcome Debora. I have to say as painful as it's been I've learned a lot in the last month (about life)- and maybe even grown some, but I also know I am early in the journey. All the best to you.
Welcome here. My mother died in the month of Jan but many decades ago. I hope you can find something in her treasures to keep that will make you smile and remember all the good times.
My mothers house would be a breeze to clear, she was always minimalist .My house,on the other hand, might take them a while ! So sorry for your loss .I'll be inconsolable once my mother is gone. At least you can smile at all the memories you are going to unearth. Welcome aboard.
Thank you for the warm welcomes, and condolences! My energy / ability to "engage" seems to wax and wane- but I'm sure it will get a bit better in time...
