    Hello All,

I found this Civil War US Army M1860 Cavalry Sword Saber & Scabbard in a local auction. It has engraved date and owner's name on it. I'm not sure if this a original authentic piece or re-production? The metal and corrosion appearance on the handle looks different to old sword. The Engraving of manufacture is not professional ...

There was no 2d Armored Calvary Regiment until 1948.

Agree-IMHO,the lettering used in the Dedication looks to my amateur eyes,to be a more modern typeface.Sorry-can't yell you about the inspector, arsenal or date stamps, except to say,to me-they appear older (or at least have the correct 'serif' typeface).

Authentic 1862 Ames Manufacturing civil war sword. Grew up near the plant. Pretty nice swords.

Just to get this straight, did they deface an original 1860's Civil War produced
sword with a later inscription as a door prize ?
PS-Sorry to drag you down with my denseness.:(

Looks like only the scabbard was engraved at a later date. OP can help here.

This sword is a reproduction. The pommel cap has a different shape than the originals, and the blade doesn't have the crisp lines of an antique.
