Does anyone find themselves in this position? While I cannot bring myself to scrap a Gorham set I have been piecemealing out, I would on average so far make 20% more if I just scrapped it for cash and at 7.5% of the work! Talk about frustrating...

Tell me about it, I have some British hallmarked George III pieces that I know I will get less for at a b&m auction than I would if I scrapped. Its a bit sad really.

That is sad. On the inverse- some light weight items like napkin rings seem to move at a price above their weight, depending on the design- at least on eBay.

I only scrap run of the mill or damaged pieces. The "good" stuff I hoard.

I hoard some, scrap the damaged or no-design pieces, and sell some to pay for the rest. It's a crying shame when antiques sell for less than scrap value.

It is really difficult for me to keep any silver when my silver refiner pays 90% for scrap silver and 98% for gold.
