I've been trying to sell this for over a year but w/o any luck, and all my research has come up blank. I really like the flourish of the flowers interrupting the gilding at the base. Might anyone have any thoughts on this piece? I suppose due to the name I assume it's French... but who knows.

    edit: 1910, not 1912.

It has no chip. That is where the floral glazing goes over the gilding- as I mentioned.

Apparently you don't look very thoroughly either :bookworm:

Ha ha- sorry, but trying to resist that joke was futile :borg:

Also... the second candle holder is directly behind the one in the foreground, and the "seafood green" is actually "marsupial purple". When's the last time you've been to an optometrist?!

Looks hobbyist painted but nice. "Homemade" stuff can be a hard sell and is generally priced rather cheaply. I don't think that Rita May is a French name, but the blank she used might have been.

I think you need super powers to see that perfectly aligned second candle holder. Personally I don’t like the colour scheme much at all. I suppose it’s a more classic look but vibrant flowers would have been better and easier to sell.. Does look to be in great condition for 1912,and surely have collectors value. Maybe your asking price is the main problem?

IMO, a $99 opening bid with $228 BIN is too high. There are single antique Limoges candlesticks that haven't sold for $10. In your listing you state it's been in your family for 50 years--maybe you're adding sentimental value to it? Also, a few of your photos are slightly blurry. Also, it's a candlestick. Not a candlestick holder.

Examples of completed listings show a pair of professionally decorated W A Pickard candlesticks sold for $130, another pair for $60, and a single for $40.

If you want, you can probably still edit the title. Not that anyone would hold those two years against you.:D

It is a nice shape and the floral painting is charming, but really?

Well, it is a hobbyist piece and nicely done, but hobbyist items generally do not sell for much $$$. Interesting that hobbyist pieces often don't travel far from where they were made, much like studio pottery.

Yikes, I'm afraid I agree with JB. IMHO, I'd feel lucky to achieve $20 for a homemade hobbyist piece like this.
I actually like the colors, but it is a big drawback that it's a single.

Agree. The value of this type of thing is typically sentimental.
