    Some of my elephants.:)

On a 1930s table bell from East Java:

The elephant and rider wayang kelitik puppet, also from East Java:

The small brass elephant that lives in my kitchen, from East Java:

And last, a teensy silver elephant that is inlaid on the top of a Madurese keris hilt.
It is difficult to spot, about the size of a baby's fingernail and facing right. It was clearly just meant for the owner to see and feel as he wore his keris by his side.

Ooh, handsome! I am looking after my granddaughter who is home sick from school today, but I will get a photo up. That group of elephants is so cool. A friend of my grandmother's had something similar in ivory.

I can only think of 2 elephant related antiques I own, this is one, I'll try and get a pic of the other tonight. 28616559_110623566439292_6282931852640365753_o (1).jpg

Well, now I'm confused. Trying to post from my phone and it looks like the only thing I can do is create a dratted link to 2 photos of my little elephant. The posting photos thing asks for a URL, doesn't go to my photos file. Oh well. To top of trunk it's just over 3" high (just under 8 cm) and pretty much the same dimensions from the tail to the tip of his lower jaw. Very lightweight wood. No idea what it is, but it has nice stripes in it.

As promised my other elephant on a Ceylonese ebony desk tidy, you don't ordinarily find carved and reeded Ceylonese on the same piece. 8b39cfa5-d77d-4cb4-999a-fa0710a6a2c7.jpg fd6375af-ae0b-435c-b58e-8db370d2516e.jpg

    It is a sweetie, Kent.:)
But a beauty. A nice band of Chinese archaic inspired swastikas, and I love how the stylized swirl forms the ear and face.
