Are you sure it's cast iron? It has the look of copper in places.

I think it's fire gilded cast iron Chinois, but maybe I'll get out my #11 Xacto scalpel and give it a teensy scrape.

Or a magnet? Be kind. :bucktooth:

Copper goes a browny black like that when well tarnished. I might be wrong

The magnet sticks-so iron I guess. Is copper at all magnetic ?

Not unless it has iron in it. Which is unlikely.

You can pinpoint the exact date it was made, if you have the time to look up all the teritorial changes it has.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_national_border_changes_(1914–present)
I have a feeling its more towards the 1921 limit, as the base is a belle-epoque design, dating before ww1, maybe leftover stock, or made before they had the time to retool for a more simplified design. Could be a rare find with a narrow window of time, if you find proof it has a border configuration that only existed for a few months.
So grab your magnifying glass and look closely )

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

@bosko69 , you might have missed this early comment from Davey. That would narrow the date range to 1918-1922.
edit: I didn't notice the change in beginning of date range to 1921. -- So, 1921-1922?

Gigi-That's what I'm hopin' ! A scarce fill-in piece made of left over 'bit' n' bobs',def an archaic-style base. Thanks for the Wiki list.
Thanks Fig-I saw Davey's earlier comments and they're def in the mix,a 1 year production-run would be a mighty fine thing ! But I've learned to temper my antique fantasies $$$.
    Thanks Raver !
Go to do my Geographic research.

Any luck narrowing the date ?
1922 Ukraine is a no, for sure, there is just a name inside the soviet state, just like Armenia, the red lines are the official state borders. Big red line on the Urals is the Europe-Asia divide.
Managed to narrow it down further between 1923 and 1927.
1923 is the first time the border existed like this between Turkey, Greece and Bulgaria.
And 1927 is the date italian Libya was split in 2. Only existed in this configuration till 1927. It was reunited again in 1934, but by that time there was the Constantinopole name change.
    Hope it helps a bit.
