Featured Musical rotating pottery jardiniere .... Roseville?

Picked up this musical rotating jardiniere at the thrift store several years ago right before I moved. Packed it away before being able to do any real research and just ran across it recently. It appears to be Roseville Ivory II on a possible Russco blank. Thing is, I can't find this as Russco piece or an Ivory II piece even without the musical base. I find no reference at all to any musical Roseville pieces.

The jardiniere is 3" tall and about 6" diameter without the handles. Weight and thickness is about right for Roseville. The bottom seems to be recessed just slightly more than typical Roseville. The clay seems a bit light in color for typical Roseville pottery. However, looking at some of the bottoms of Ivory II pieces, it doesn't really seem to be off. It is glued to a cardboard platform that is connected to the music box stem. You turn the jardiniere to wind the music box. There is no on/off switch.

What do I have? Roseville Ivory II ? Roseville experimental? Some other identifiable pottery? An import knock-off? An odd duck?

Is it possible to remove the movement and see if it's marked?

The label says Thorens Movement. Do you think another would have been installed, SIS? There is also some language on the silver colored piece next to the part that plays the music which I can read, but should be easy for Brad to decipher.

The pot is well glued to the platform. I thought the shaft might unscrew from the mechanism but I could not get it to do so and I did not want to try and force it. The mechanism itself is screwed to the base from the top. The only way to unscrew it is to remove the pot first.

The silver casing just reads; Thorens Made in Switzerland. I think this is probably all original as made.

In comparing closely to the Roseville Ivory II pieces on Russco blanks, I don't think this is Roseville. The Roseville pieces have three ridges to the handles, not two like on this. The vertical line details on the body are also different. This then begs the question of what it really is.

I googled musical pottery, flower pot, planter and everything I found seemed to be from Japan but nothing was similar to your piece.

Was wondering what the Anniversary Waltz sounds like. If you do too, check here. It's lovely.

    Delete ....

Had posted a different song but it actually the same as the above. Seems it was written in 1941 so my box can't be any older than that.

Well, the tune is called Anniversary Song, but it's the same as Brad's. It IS a waltz, though.

I was wrong and deleted it. Was hoping to do so before anyone noticed ..... LOL! It is the same as the Vera Lynn song. What I posted was The Anniversary song that is actually the Waves of the Danube.

    Bakersgma,

You are right. That is a popular version of it.

If it's anything like the Schmid music boxes the pottery could be Japanese. Some Schmid pieces had two labels, one for the mechanism and one for the pottery. Sometimes the Japan label "disappeared". Generally I am not a fan of music boxes but I can see myself making an exception for this one. Very neat!

Did you read the whole article.

Sometimes referred to as the Anniversary Waltz which is "a completely unrelated song"
