    You can get chains which wouldn’t mean modifying or fixing permanently but would still be secure. Well worth it.

    Or go Victorian and use an open-ended stickpin clutch over the pin stem once it's been put through the fabric. It keeps the pin on if the clasp opens.

    Yes, I have done that, too.
    They work great. There are many solutions!
    I never want to lose a brooch, as I toss my coats/jackets around a lot.
