This coin purse was passed down to me from my grandmother. I wanted to get some more information about it as I can't seem to find anything about it online. It is marked "M.S." on the clasp. The artwork on the front appears to be embroidery and hand painted. I believe the coin purse is made of leather. Any idea what time period this coin purse could be from? Thank you! I think it's a Kate Greenaway type figure so, if it's from that period, 1870s-'80s?

I second MOS's observation that the little girl is in the style of Kate Greenaway. Could it be a transfer?

Pockets of the day, mansplaining alert, were detachable. They were handbags before handbags were handbags. It's why we still call them pocketbooks.

You sent me down a rabbit hole with this one. The decoration on it is clearly one of John Flaxman's illustrations for a classical work. Appears to be Hebe serving Mercury & Mars, but could not find it. I have a book of his illustrations for the works of Homer; not there. On line could find each of the 3, but not together. My, that's a modern-looking image, isn't it?

Feels modern for the 1790s, Art Deco-ish line. Though not line art, I'd include William Blake from this same period.

And yet he's a product of the 18th century. I 'met' him because many of his illustrations were used as designs on cameos, and 'the Dancing Hours' he modeled for Wedgwood are ubiquitous.

I wasn't familiar with him until now.
