    Tuareg hilts can be flared, but the flatness is puzzling to me too.
    Maybe further south, Sub-Sahara Africa?

    African very possible, part of large lot African, Asian and few Russian items I acquired a few years ago, this blade was shelved because I couldn't figure it out.

    It definitely looks North African to me, or perhaps Sudan (Nubia)?
