Well, I decided to clean the blade up with a little oil and in the process found a Makers Mark? Anyone seen this before?

C.R Kirschbaum, then W.R.Kirschbaum and finally Kirschbaum & Bremshey, they were in business rom ca.1848-1876. After that they were taken over by Weyersburg and became Weyersburg, Kirschbaum &Cie, but their logo was the Kings head and the knights head together.
I believe that as Weyersburg they are still going.

Many of these firms made blades to supply to other companies and for many different uses, theatrical amongst them. They were also manufacturers of blades to many different countries. I have had Italian swords that were made by Schnitzler & Kirschabum, and I have a French 1842 pattern bayonet also made by them, and marked S&K. That partnership was a longlasting one, from ca.1811-1865.
