Solved: Antique god with an “Hermitage” mark.

Good evening, comrades.


I found this statuette of the son of God from the Black Etruscan tribe. Turns out there were black Etruscans after all!


What surprised me is that it has “Hermitage” written on the back in Russian letters.


I bought it for just €20, but I couldn’t find any similar pieces online.


What do you think—what era is it from? Is it an antique or just a vintage piece?

 

I love it ! Knee jerk its a newer reproduction ,possibly sold in a museum store. But im often wrong. What about that lovely painted book ? If thats what it is .

 

Could be from the gift shop of The Hermitage art museum in St. Petersburg, Russia. That would be my guess.

 

I found out this is an image of the god Usil, and the original is at the Hermitage Museum. So I do think it's from the Museum shop.

The stag symbol with the elaborate antlers, on the base next to the name, is Scythian. The original is a Scythian golden stag, of which there are several. It is very likely that the Hermitage also has one, because Scythian art is found from Hungary to Siberia.

A skilled Etruscan master of the 5th century BC depicted a winged sun deity on a bronze chariot decoration, which is now kept in the collection of the State Hermitage Museum. This is the golden stag found in a Scythian burial mound in Kostromskaya stanitsa, in the northern foothills of the Caucasus Mountains. The mound was excavated in 1897 by Nikolai Ivanovich Veselovsky, and the stag, a shield plaque, is in the Hermitage collection.

I love the wallet too. Looks Italian,and pretty old. Id guess 1900 give or take a decade.
