Featured 17th Century German Silver Beaker, maker?

Shot in the dark here but I came across this 17th Century German silver beaker. I don't know if anyone here has any German silver mark books but if anyone could ID this maker mark I would greatly appreciate it. The other mark is of a nettle leaf and after posting on another forum I think this piece may be from Rinteln by the Sebastian family. Finding a mark this old may be very hard especially in the US. I can see there are quite a few books online from Germany with very earl silver marks but are impossible to obtain! I should also note that the lid is defintely a later addition to the cup, different finish, different color gilt, different flowers, etc.

    Very nice find.:)
The model is typical of 17th century beakers, copies are made to this day. It would have had a higher, pointier lid.
The town mark does look like the Rinteln nettle leaf mark (Nesselblatt). The repoussé on the beaker itself is not as refined as found in the big silver centres of the day, but it is very good for provincial silver.

But a word of warning: Hanau made similar pieces in the 19th and early 20th century, and they are known for their fake marks.

Honestly it very well could be hanau silver and im not sure how to prove it is or isn't! I just haven't seen these marks on Hanau silver before.

    Ditto.
Maybe ask Sotheby's if they are interested? If they are not, you have your answer.

That's the perfect 'Litmus test' for high ticket item. Sotheby's got back to me by mail in less than a month for a 12K piece . The other pieces I mailed them I never heard a thing back-ever.
PS-Beaker repousse' much more articulated on the 17th cent orig.

I sent an email to several experts at bukowski and bonhams both are well known silver dealers. Let's see what they say!

Jealous of your cup, Hanau or not. I want one now. I wonder how many years will pass before one crosses my path cheaply!?

Unfortunately this is going to be an unidentified mid to late 1600s German silver beaker. I got in contact with the head of the silver department at Lempertz and the maker's mark isn't in any books! It does appear to be authentic from the period and not Hanau. It's just a bummer we can't ID it! Still a great looking piece.
