Odd design Tortola mask

I do not see anything about this culture creating masks like this. The material is a common gourd I don't have the name right now. There are a lot of similar tribal masks done with this material. I only saw one however with the type of open mouth expression.

They were not from Tortola.

It is about 7 inches high by 5.5 inches wide.

Any information on this possibly being just a one-off design?

 

I found this. They look like very noble people. Not sure what relation this is to who created the mask.

I like the symbolism of the mask. It's like the expression of the soul comes out the mask and its filtering out anything "of the flesh." I know that might be obscure but it was the first thing I picked up when I saw it.

I suspect your mask is a tourist craft. It looks like it is made from the fruit of the calabash tree, Crescentia cujete, which grows throughout the Caribbean and other tropical places in the Americas.
