After the tenant next door died, the apartment was left unlocked with anything the family did not take still inside. I helped myself to a measuring cup this size, marked in both English and metric measure, 2 cups or 1/2 litre. Good thing I got it then. Can't imagine what it would cost now if I needed to buy it: it was made in Mexico.

Good eye! I always check pendants on costume chains. Last summer, I found an 18k cameo pendant on a costume chain, and I found a 14k jade pendant on a costume chain. Glad you broke that streak!

Found a bit of gold for $2.24 after my 30% discount. 14k, 46 inch watch chain, 26.5 grams.

And my second stop a Victorian 14k, turquoise and rutilated quartz brooch for $3.19. IMG_4485.jpeg

So that's where the finds went! I went to a church rummage sale that used to be OK. This time, the former jewelry tables could have been table, singular. A honker of a watch/lorgnette chain...wheee.

I am a dodo...what does that gold chain come out to in today's gold prices?

Today the spot value is about $1,530.
If I drove 40 miles to the smelter I’d get about $1,380. If I scrap at the local jewelry shop I’d get about $1,300.

That's such an interesting tip. i.e. Never assume that a chain and its pendant started out life together and one may be costume and the other fine jewelry.

Whoa, nice finds all! Diamond pendant Houseful, wow.

Stunning turquoise and quartz pendant, Anund, plus the gold, absolutely amazing the things you find.

A while back I got a charm style bracelet marked 1/20 of 14K on the clasp. Nothing too great. Later I found a small 14K mark on the bracelet itself and realized that the clasp had been replaced. Rare, but can happen!

I’ve got a fake Opal pendant, which I was thinking of donating. Good job I checked the chain first. Nine carat.

I went to one of the best estate sales ever last week. Honestly one for the record books. Many rooms, more outside with tents. My bags were full with things, I even found a fairly heavy gold ring (not shown, sold as costume) in some ways was more excited by this vase. Just sitting on a table, outside, a good 20 minutes into the sale. I almost couldn't believe my eyes. No one grabbed this? Well I did. 14" Weller Louwelsa, chip free. Same sale as the Catalina pottery piece.

OOoh pretty! I'd have been excited to find that sitting unloved too. Not to mention a heavy gold ring for costume prices.

You know how the back of these Weller vases are blank? Still shopping, I walked around with it like a baby in my arms, with the blank side facing out as not to draw attention. Nothing to see here....

Edit: Forgot to add that vases were not individually priced. Just a set price, small $4, medium $6, etc.

of course it happens..... I put a 14k clasp on my 18k chain....it was stronger and I felt better about not losing the chain.
I once had a 14k box chain..... never again.... that came off my neck while golfing...when I got home and untucked my shirt.....it fell on the floor at my feet...
good thing I kept it tucked in during the game..

2 end tables and a coffee table with MARBLE FROM PORTUGAL on all 3. Won't post buy price because we are reselling them, but it was a deal!! 20250405_115630.jpg
