I posted this fully hallmarked 9ct bangle in the finds forum. It weighs 7grams.
The hook style catch doesn’t catch properly so it’s off to the jewellers to sell for scrap weight but these bangles have metal inside them for strength but I’ve never seen how it looks, ie is it a flat strip or metal wire/s? How heavy is the metal component likely to be? The only way to know for sure is to break it apart but I wondered if anyone has seen how it’s done and what it looks like inside. The front Celtic design is solid. I’m wondering how much he will take off the overall weight when I give it to him. I had one similar a couple of years ago but lighter than this one and I got £25 from him but gold was much lower in price then. I will let you know what happens. Thanks.

Sometimes it's wire, and sometimes it can be plastic to keep it rigid.

I would strip it before taking it in.

Check it with a magnet, see if picks up the inner metal.

9ct is a lot sturdier than higher carat gold, so it might not have wired support in it.

    7gms of 9ct is £199.46 = £28.49 per gram
Last year it was £17.50 per gram

My scrap man at York pays £1 per gram, less than the total weight.

Hard to see in the photo, looks like sheet with the edges rolled over.

If the prices stay the same or higher, then I will take this lot of 9ct next week
The top two bracelets are hollow and not strengthened.

Only the rings are scrap (missing stones) but the scrap price has beaten the used retail price so off it goes.

    67 grams £1903.80 at Friday night's closing.
    He takes £67

It does pick up with a magnet so definitely metal inside.
I wouldn’t know the best way to strip it, I’ve got a Dremel and a big angle grinder! Would you just cut off an end and the metal will pull out?

Cut the ends of the Celtic design off with a pair of pliers, and then pull the metal wire or strip out.
Or cut along the edge with the dremmel and try it that way.

Good call to strip it thanks Davey. I used tin snips as I thought the bolt cutters would crush it and make it harder to get the metal out.
It is folded sheet as @Hollyblue suggests. The piece of metal wire weighs just half a gram. I thought it would be heavier. Anyway here it is for future reference for joolies.
