Oh, that's darling! What do you think the occasion is? They're holding diplomas but February isn't a graduation month. They do look to be in a wide age range. Perhaps a church group? Where does it say Portland?

The boy in the middle row, 2nd from left, and the girl in the front row, middle left, look related to me. I'm not sure about the ribbons they're wearing?

    Not necessarily.

BTW The tallest guy standing in the back looks like the Jewish man, now 60+, who grew up next door to me. Dead ringer for him at about 16.

I suspect the initials in the lower left hand corner give the affiliation. HG2 is what I read. Could be wrong.

I think school ribbons were traditionally part of a graduation ensemble.|

It's a school picture, Feb 1908., 8th grade maybe. They used to do that, especially when a school system only went that far. My grandmother's two-room schoolhouse only went 8 grades; you had to stay with someone in a larger town to go to high school. Grandma went to work instead.

That is a great picture. The older people in the center I imagine the teachers ? Some look so young

Here's that close-up MOS-- I'm thinking a chair too. But I'll add this: if the girl sitting in it is in eighth grade, kids used to be way older than they are today!

I guess that is a chair. Is that a large bow behind the girl's head? looks like all the girls have them?
