Its ~20" long, ~5/16" wide, ~1/16" thick; weight is ~41 grams.
The 'patterns' are random as far as I can discern, both sides; the outer face has raised granular silver-toned bits on a gold-toned ground; the back shows uniformly silver-toned panels with random points, but gold color can be seen between them in the joints. I get an overall impression of quality of materials, design an' execution...an' Italy, as High-grade costume...but just don't know. I also don't know how to correctly describe the safety-latch, which I've seen often, elsewhere. The 'heft' of it, the feel in my hand, suggests silver content, but without any markings I'm much less than sure about that assumption. What say you all...has anyone got wisdom to add to this puzzle? Thanks for lookin'!

This is not the kind of clasp I'd want to see on fine jewelry.
So based on that alone, I think it is costume.
That said, you should wear it!

Late 70s to early 80s costume. I had similar things based on nugget jewelry. It was always costume.

I have an' unusual chain I've worn, on an' off, since the early 70's. It has a story behind it of course. I'll take a few pics an' post a show an' tell in Silver...when I get a round tuit, Stracci.
