Featured Silver Thai Chinese betel leaf holder.

A beautifully detailed antique Thai pierced silver betel leaf holder, made for the Chinese community in Thailand, and probably by a Thai Chinese silversmith.
Although I try to limit myself to Indonesian betel accessories, this holder was simply too beautiful to pass by.

For those of us who don't know betel leaf holders from Beetle Juice, how big is this?

 

It is small, 11.5 cm / ca 4.5" high from the base to the pointy tip at the back.

That's a crazy amount of work in a very small space. An accomplished silversmith made that and I can see why you wandered off with it.

 

Absolutely stunning-If I could've pulled it off (ie: outta my wallet), I would've grabbed it.

I have one of my own, but mine's a much cheaper pewter one. I'd love a silver one, but MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN are they expensive!!

I'm sure you will. Not only beautiful, but from a sister culture to Peranakan culture. But she is here to stay.

I got mine at an auction, my final bid was less than half of the estimate. I was very luck to win it.

 

That's lovely. Id be scared of squishing it with my big lumpy hands.

 

She is not as delicate as she looks. But I put her behind two sturdier Javanese silver betel accessories, just to be sure. She is still visible though.

The blurry baby in the foreground is a beautiful Sumatran Malay lime box, and the dark thingy just peeping out bottom left is a Peranakan lime box.
