    Hello and good day!
I have this pretty hand painted bottle which I think is porcelain. It has an unglazed patch? or something on the bottom. I'm trying to find out any info on it, age, style, maker? Any help much appreciated. il_fullxfull.5619350605_5gy7.jpg il_fullxfull.5571247708_6hf9.jpg il_fullxfull.5571247704_jxet.jpg il_fullxfull.5619350609_hqoo.jpg il_fullxfull.5571247694_4pcr.jpg

Those are my images, where I had it listed for sale lol. I need info about my piece, not a link to my listing, I already know how to access that. I was unable to find anything like it when listed it 2 yrs ago, thought I would try and see if I could find more. I do this with pieces I have trouble researching. I sell on ebay, Etsy, and Chairish.com that is why you are seeing multiple images. My business is Saints Antiques. I take my own photos and do my own editing.

If anyone has some expertise (not a Google image search which I do on all of my pieces) any info it is much appreciated!

Why have you you not pulled the white sticker off the bottom? If there is a mark it will be there. How big? Very sloppy decoration looks 20th century made in Japan to me.

Probably because it is not a white sticker, lol. As stated, it appears to be an unglazed patch? An area of applied porcelain or pottery? And the decoration is not sloppy as can be seen, but where the applied gold has worn with age.

If it’s not a sticker then it looks like paint, not an unglazed patch, lol. Try a corner to see if it comes off? Looks sloppy to me unless it is really really small, which is why I asked the size. You may disagree, ok.

I'm an antique dealer, it is unglazed porcelain or pottery, please stop insulting me. It is hard as a rock. Why would I come on here and lie? Good grief I'm 59, not 8. It is 9" high, 5" wide.

As we all know, it takes about 20 min to set up sales accounts on eBay, Etsy and chairish. I guess that is all it takes to consider oneself an “antique dealer”, but that certainly doesn’t impart any knowledge about antiques. I have no idea what you know, only you do.

As to being “insulting”, you already threw out two LOLs to two people here trying to help you, but you get your panties all twisted with one lol in return. I don’t see any insults directed your way, maybe look at your own posts before accusing others.

And if your considered opinion is that this 9” tall decanter is a wonderful example of an expertly and painstakingly decorated early 19th century Edo porcelain piece, then I just have to rest my case.

Japanese, early 20th c. I have seen that kind of patch before, and it does look painted on, but I know what you mean when you say it's hard. I think it's a fairly typical example of that period of Japanese wares.

Typically when someone is listing their piece that has been on eBay or another forum they will indicate or link that item. I wasn't sure if you were trying to purchase it and wanted an opinion or if you were the seller who wasn't getting any action. I have been selling on eBay since 1998, I sell on etsy as well and I joined Chairish in 2013 when they were selecting dealers - I was an accredited appraiser with the ISA. Having said all of that, I am learning daily but I also understand that people do not need to share their knowledge so it helps to be gracious. I value every single opinion from this group and we all know that anyone can sell on those 3 forums - it isn't a bragging right. I see a ton of things listed on Chairish that often have incorrect attribution and/or ridiculous prices to cover the 20 - 40% commission they now charge.

I find that social customs have changed a lot from when those of us of a certain age grew up. The advent of social media is a prime mover in the discourtesy we see these days, AFAIC. And I know that it is sometimes difficult to discern the tone of a post/text. However, being polite never hurts!

This place still Rocks , and is a safe space for so many of us !
Sure there's some drama from time to time..... but I'd rather deal with those here...than any where else !!
