Late 20th C Gorham 4780 Master Salt Shell, No Insert

    I haven't been able to tease out the date code, but the octagonal cartouches seem to indicate 1980's. It'll be scrap soon...unless there's any real chance of finding the correct insert; I'm clueless about where to launch that search. It's ~3 7/8" long, ~2 1/2" wide, ~1" high; weight is ~3/4 ozt. Thanks for lookin'!

    Search on eBay or Google "blue glass liners for salt cellars" There are thousands.

    I never thought of googling for glass liners for metal items. I have a Sheffield plate ornate butter dish with cover that needs a liner.

    This is a nut dish,it never had a liner - often identified as companions to Gorham's 'Cromwell' flatware pattern (personally, have doubts), they were originally produced as #A4780 after 1898, the 'A' prefix dropped by 1932 or earlier, then produced as #4780. They were produced for many years, but see no indication of the dating being anywhere near as late as the 1980s, Gorham's trademarks started changing around 1950...
