Hello again. I’m pretty sure the attached plate is 19th century Japanese, but I cannot decipher what the Kanji mark says. Help, anyone?

    Best wishes,
    Ken Yap.

@Ken Yap are you sure it is Japanese? I was thinking Chinese Republic period 1900-1950.
But just guessing. You might look through Gotheborg.

Thank you. I did, but couldn’t find anything. I likewise came away from Google and ChatGPT empty handed. It COULD have been made by a Japanese craftsman in Jingdezhen, but the character makes no sense in Chinese either. The blue, by the way, is overglaze. The potting and bats do pass as Chinese. The character looks a little bit like “Hi”, as in “Hizen” which, in Chinese, means fat

Thanks, that helps. Those bats look very Chinese.
Also, the shade of white of the glaze looks more Chinese than Japanese to me. Of course that is dificult to judge from photos on a screen
