What a dramatic title, sorry I'm stunned by this match ! Quick story-got the lamp base 30 yrs ago ($50), no shade. Found the shade Sat for $8-never thought to put the two together. My lady walks out this AM with the base and plops the 'bordello' shade (good crystal beads) on the classy Eastlake base-WOW. I was surprised they'd even be close aesthetically. What do you think ? @Ghopper1924 @verybrad @Any Jewelry @charlie cheswick @wlwhittier
Very Good Marriage, Bosko...You an' yer Lady, especially! Please consider taking her to dinner at some nice place for a change...on me! I'll catch up witcha later to settle the bill! That's one hell of a lamp, now; I like the Bordello theme, it seems to fit, eh?
I don't hate it but think something a bit more subdued would show the lamp off better. Right now, the shade is the star and I think the base more deserving. I don't know off-hand what would be better. Shades are always difficult
That shade sure is... WOW! Since you asked... IMHO, the shade competes with and overpowers the pretty base. (EDIT: Sniped by verybrad and agree with him.)
Thanks for all the feedback. I was stunned they could even be in the same room together ! It's like the base lives in JP Morgan's manse on 5th Ave and the shade belongs in New Orleans in 'Streetcar Named Desire' or Storyville. Definitely an eccentric look.
Today's our 46th Anniversary-Rib Eye and a bottle of Pinot my Sister's tiny California vineyard produced !
I get the above comments, but have to say the whole thing is pretty exuberant and works together just fine IMO. Time for a night out on the town, then park it next to the Storyville lamp!
Hearty Congratulations, to Both of You! Marriage is work, like anything else worthwhile. Those years together attest to the Effort, an' the Love, that has bound you, hand in hand. I'm tickled for you an' your family!
That's an exuberant shade, all right. The colors are right, but as the others said the shade is doing all of the talking.
I think it's a fun temporary solution but... I don't think either is shown to their best advantage. (You asked.) Debora
Thanks for the congrats (Anniversary) and the lamp's definitely got 'over the top' exuberance. I'm calling it 'Wh***house Gyp** Boho Chic ' !
Fifth Ave meets Five Points? That's where Chinatown and the girlies were. I'd bet on a few Sporting houses too.
I like all 3. The lamp base, the shade & the fact that you are celebrating 46 years of marriage! Happy Anniversary to both of you, I am a tad less than 10 years behind you.
