Featured Karakuri Edo Automaton Dolls

    Just came across some interesting videos showing Karakuri, a traditional Edo Japanese mechanical dolls (1603–1868) that move using gears, springs, and weights.

    Japanese dolls and figurines are appealing. I knew about automata, and have seen some from the western world, but not from Japan or other parts of Asia!

    There's a vid of the last living automata Japanese master demonstrating a Samurai (?) Archer shooting tiny arrows-it's amazing .
