Featured ID Hallmark on 14k Gold Earrings bought in Greece?

    Greetings!
The lady I bought these from said she bought them in Greece. I can't find anything regarding Greek gold hallmarks or maker's marks. Not that these were necessarily MADE there...
Anyway, I can make out "585" and "89", but can't tell whether the top marks are letters, symbols, or...?
    Any clues are appreciated!

    Very nice ear pendants.
I have no reason to believe they are not Greek. They certainly have the meander symbol, often used in Greece and known in English as 'Greek key'. This nice artisan Modernist style was also used by many Greek jewellery makers.
I would have a jeweller check the loop on that one earring, a pair of soft nosed pliers should do the job.

But they don't have a hallmark, so no proof.
Afaik Greece doesn't have official precious metal marks. And unlike most other European countries, Greece is not a member of the Hallmarking Convention, so no convention mark either (for which a country needs to hallmark anyway).

For those who are interested in hallmarking, the Hallmarking Convention mark is a pair of scales with the fineness in the balancing part. The Convention was started 50 years ago, but many member states joined later.

Thanks for the info- that explains why I found no info on Greek hallmarks.
I am familiar with the term "Greek key", but never heard of the "meander symbol"- learned something there, too!
I have a pair of jeweler's pliers, so I can carefully tighten those loops myself.
The expert regulars on this board never disappoint; love y'all!

You should be able to. Are they 'soft-nosed', with plastic caps? If not, you can put a cloth between the pliers and the gold so you won't get any indentations.
    Good luck!

While I have no doubt that these are real gold, how do you know they are 14K? Not a joolie, and just curious.

    Beautiful earrings!

Greek marks are inconsistent and vary, though there is a registry of marks and quality definitions, in place for at least a couple of decades or longer. Have no idea who it may be, but the 'Ω.8' stamp is the Greek maker's mark, the Omega as a capital letter should be for Athens (a number rather than letter can be used for some other locations) - the pertinent clips below are from an official site I stumbled across several years ago:

They're stamped '585', the numeric fineness for 14k...

Yes, the pliers have nylon inserts. I just now straightened the loop.

585 is the standard mark for 14k gold in Germany.

Thank you Cheryl and MaJa regarding the 585 mark.

So I had another look, the omega sign was the sign/mark of the firm of F. Zerrenner in Pforzheim, founded in 1843 and liquidated in 2002.

By the way, the eyelet of the right earring is bent open, you should get it fixed

But it's not the mark on these earrings...

    These are Friedrich Zerrenner marks:

Your marks are Greek, the use of a Greek letter, a period, and a number is unique (sorry I can't be any more 'specific').

Usually very difficult to pin down a Greek maker, the information just isn't really out there, but here is an 'Ω.76' (Omega.76) on a 750 (18K) piece by prominent Greek jeweler Lalaounis, and another with an 'Α.21' (Alpha.21), also used by Lalaounis, posted to show the form of the mark is Greek. Your earrings have nothing to with Germany.

Here is a Greek-made pendant very similar to your earrings:

And a very Greek style, imo. I have not seen this specific Modernist style on non-Greek jewellery, but often on Greek jewellery of the 60s and 70s. It could have been used later as well.
