Hi, The photo below is of what is thought to be a babies rattle and has been in Wife's family for as long as they can remember. It has a small object in it which 'rattles' when it is shaken. It seems though to be of a plastic or bakelite material, but unable to establish its age etc. Any ideas?

    Might it be celluloid?

I wonder if it might be as early as Art Nouveau. Anemones were a popular design motif then.

Could very well be. Sweet little thing.

I think it's delightful. If it's very lightweight could well be a Celluloid-type material. Not sure it adds any value to be able to put an exact name to the polymer. I know there are collectors of Celluloid & its kin; surely there are collectors of rattles as well. Not sure I would want to part with it.
