This came in a collection I purchased a few years back. I posted another from the collection recently. This carving captured my imagination immediately. It may not be the only one with a similar subject matter but it’s pretty unique I’d think. Any help identifying the carver would be much appreciated. It’s roughly 7” long. To be honest I was never totally sure if the viewer is witnessing an act of motherly love or avian infanticide. I’ve assumed the former, but not knowing makes it slightly more interesting to look at.
I'm sure a lot of mothers have wanted to wring a neck... It is a unique scene though! It's unexpected and that makes it fun.
Have you checked Waddington's? They really know Inuit art - you might be able to send them pictures or check their database. Interesting sculpture.
