Featured Victorian 9ct gold earrings, are the screw backs original?

Hi there! Picked up these Victorian 9ct gold earrings recently (I hadn't seen the diamond registration mark on jewelry before!). The markings indicate June 1874. I was wondering if the screw backs are original to the earrings or would they have had hooks? The pearls are faux (there is coating coming off one of them) and the screw back part doesn't appear to be gold-I don't think. I'm thinking about converting them back to hooks if that's what they were originally. Thanks for any and all info!

They probably were indeed pierced. No harm in switching them back; the 1950s screwbacks don't suit them anwyay.

 

I have a Victorian pair that someone converted to screw back as well. I assume they were kidney wires originally.

 

Or shepherd hooks, given the type of ear pendant.
