Bronze weights, what are they for?

    i bought these bronze weights but have no idea what they are for or where they are from.

    height 14.5cm
    Width 12cm
    Depth 3.5cm
    650 grams each

    Nice English leather saddles would have forged iron stirrups which were much better then the plastic ones they sell today - not as light though.
