    Are you saying that Reed & Barton’s damascene line wasn’t true damascene and was instead enamels made to resemble damascene?

    Precisely. It's a not-quite toledoware. Damascene is small amounts of fine metal hammered into bits of cast iron or steel in intricate designs. Reed and Barton wasn't even close; they made a product line called Damascene, but it wasn't the real thing.

    This was my finished project at the class.Shakudo base with gold foil silver sheet and wire. I meet James Binnion a mokume gane master and a number of other professional goldsmiths.
