Native American Rug?

LOOKS like a NA rug. My question is the style of stitching along the edges. I haven't seen that before. Measures about 4 x 8 feet. What say you?

 

looks like an eye dazzler........ but then...it doesn't.
the stiching doesn't look right for a Navajo loom...

A bodgered Navajo rug would be my best guess, but I can't be certain. It has certainly had a rough life. The wool looks similar to late 19th-early 20th century Navajo churro wool, and the single ply yarns would be typical. The interlocking weave of the center blocks in your second photo look right. The 3rd photo is more difficult to read. I have rotated it a little so the warp is vertical -


The "lazy lines" along the diagonal color changes make sense, but the ones within the white areas seem odd. Perhaps if they could be seen in a larger context they might look more correct.

All four edges of the rug appear to have been secured/repaired with a blanket stitch done by a later hand, and with different yarn, which makes it hard to confirm some of the distinctive characteristics of Navajo weaving.
