New acquisition! A Georgian foiled emerald paste brooch in the shape of a Maltese cross, set in gilt metal. This is a large example as most I’ve found is roughly 3cm across.

Sadly the main stone suffered from several chips and I am thinking if one day it fell off I’ll just replace it with a new one. Also one arm is visible skewed, I guess only re-soldering can save that, so I’ll leave it for now. Enjoy!

Very sweet. And it goes with the necklace.:)
Crosses are difficult territory.;) This is a cross 'formée' or 'pattée'. Scroll down this page a bit to see the different sub-types of the cross formée/pattée:

The Maltese cross, also known as Amalfi cross, is very pointy:

Looks like a different shade of green, at least on the photos. Maybe wait?

aww thank you for correcting me  they are frequently listed as Maltese crosses so I thought that too.

and yes I’ll wait and leave it to God :D if that stone stays it stays. If it fell off (it’s already loosened and can be taken out right away) then I’ll order a new stone;)

I know.;) Crosses really are difficult, even for Christians. There are so many variations and most have specific names and even specific symbolism.

Wow! What a display of nearly endless subtleties of the form...a major education.
    Thanks, AJ!
