The only thing I ever find on the ground is change. I'm up to $7 this year, but that's not quite like finding a diamond!

Ok because we can. I wear mine most of the time. But learned a hard lesson once with a necklace when I went for a dental cleaning. The hygienist apparently when she took the bib off yanked just hard enough & snatched my necklace with a pendant. What the sentimental part is that it was a pendant from my son & DIL with my grandkids with tree of life. I reported it to the dental office & my dentist looked through the trash & it was not found. Yes she was terminated & yes my husband bought me the identical pendant again. But lesson learned I won’t wear jewelry if I am clothing shopping or a necklace or earrings at the dentist.

Nope not at all you asked but it is preference as well. I take care of what I wear on the daily. I found a single diamond earring once on my walking path. Thought no it can’t be walked by it. Later that night I went back out & drive to the spot where I saw it. Flashlight & many words from the husband for getting him out of bed I found it. Yes it was a nice diamond, I often wondered who it came from who had the pair. I turned it in after. It went unclaimed. It sits in my jewelry safe waiting for my granddaughter to turn 16 so we can make her a necklace.

When working I didn't wear any jewelry at all because I'd rather not deglove a finger, choke myself, or damage jewelry. But I work with tools and lugging things around quickly. I had a friend who wore one of those silicone rings and it caught and snapped. It smushed his finger and he couldn't bend it for a week. So I just don't wear anything and talk about my husband constantly lol.

So yeah. Not to the beach, or anything rough, or gross, and yes I don't wear necklaces to the dentist either! But for a regular errands outing ... Always.

Reminds me a couple weeks ago I was having a solo walkabout downtown. I found a cute wedgwood dish at a charity thrift for $.50. I tried to pay and the manager told me to just take it. Then he asked what I would use it for and I said a trinket dish. He said "Well not with a really big diamond like on your hand!"

:meh: I just responded "It's an illusion." My man, you gave this dish to me for free and now try to guilt me about my ring? First off, it's a mid-century piece of my grandmother's that has an illusion setting with 4 tiny diamonds around the center stone. Second, when she gave it to me she had to replace the lost center stone for the princely sum of $80. :hilarious:

@komokwa no not at all, no nerves were touched or frayed or set off as it is a very valid question to ask. I wear my jewelry (yes the good stuff), I enjoy it, some of it brings back happy memories if it was my Grandmothers. It is insured, and if I saved it for an occasion how many pieces would sit & not be worn. Same thing for using your china, good perfume & beautiful linens, etc. My Seder plate is older than my husband & my age put together aka older than dirt. I learned long ago to use what makes me happy as we may never get an opportunity for the good stuff to be used. Yes, accidents happen but they are just that accidents. I will always have the happy memories while I used it or had it & enjoyed it. To add like @mirana not to the beach or clean or anytime it can be harmed, damaged, or smoosh a finger.

My grandfathers never wore a wedding ring for the same reason. One was a baker and worked around things where a ring was a bad idea. The other grandfather repaired railroad engines, and rings were a Really Bad Idea. Dad was an engineer, but did work around some heavy machinery. He never wore a ring, but it would have been un-Dad-like if he tried. Besides, he knew whose husband he was!

Me, I wear jewelry to the dentist. The hygienist would be disappointed if I didn't; she always wants to see what I made or find. So does the dentist.

Me too! I am lucky she comes in very early for me so I am always her first patient. As I am not a good dental patient!

Mine is secured by a wrap band. And it doesn't get past my knuckles. 20240112_202119.jpg

Fabulous find. Set in platinum, I am sure it's a better quality stone...let us know what a jeweler tells you!

I never wear a necklace or earrings when getting my hair cut. I was in a salon once and a woman had a carat diamond earring combed out of her hair, they couldn't find it

Man I'm repeatedly wondering what crazy stuff you're doing while grocery shopping that necessitates removing rings. :playful:

I have very thin fingers(my wedding band & engagement ring size) it spins so I use these little clear hard plastic things.
