Hi all. I hope this is in the right category . This thing is 4 1/2 inches high.Marked made in England and E.P.C.A. I know its plate but the shape intrigued me. Any idea what it is for ? I google searched it but didnt find one quite like it. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know why, whenever there's a post for 'ebay', all I can ever see now is a big black screen with a tiny white dot in the middle.......didn't used to be that way!!!!!!!

I think Mirana figured a possible 'work around' tech-wise on the Ebay repost prob.
I was just too tech-illiterate old to grok it !

If nothing has changed on the forum settings, then it's eBay re-routing links. Like how people used to stop "hot linking" (linking to someone else's photos on their site and stealing their bandwidth) in the ye old World Wide Web days.

If someone posts the link directly, then you can right-click (or hold-click on your phone) and choose "Copy Link Text" (NOT Link URL), or highlight it and click "Copy." Test on this:

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/326010255427

Then paste into your web browser and hit enter.

If you do click the link you'll get a long string url which causes the dot, and you can edit it in your browser to remove anything that doesn't look like the simple link above. Then hit enter. The long string looks like this:

    https://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?campid=5337485078&toolid=10001&mpre=https://www.ebay.com/itm/326010255427

In this case, remove everything that's bolded. Some links also have extra garbage on the end, so you'd have to remove everything after the item number or search keywords (if it was an ebay search linked) as well.

If you're posting a link, the best thing to do is post it as text, and to do that you have to remove the http://www or the forum will automatically make it a clickable link. Then people copy paste it. Like so:

    ebay.com/itm/326010255427

On a Windows computer you can also copy the link (select link and press ctrl+c) and then paste it with ctrl+shift+v

That's because Google (lens and the search engine) is sh*t :shifty:

Last night i was trying to find info on the Iris mark from 916Bulldogs123's Dresden post. Google showed results for Irish :rage:

And with Lens I mainly get results from Etsy or from local websites, so often useless when trying to find something from another country.
Adding keywords in Google Lens also pretty useless
And when I try to translate a Chinese text with Lens, I get a translation into .... Chinese!!!! :arghh:

Black screen. Could be how the forum software implements external links for previews, tracking, or security reasons, to mention a few. Or something else...Looking at the parsed out URL, you can see it's doing a redirect

The most reliable way to post eBay URLs in the forum is to use tinyurl.com

    Screenshot 2025-05-16 091359.png Screenshot 2025-05-16 091526.png Screenshot 2025-05-16 091541.png

Click Copy, and paste into the post.
    The working eBay URL shortened->

While it's not a 'long URL' you're pasting in, tinyurl creates a redirect-free URL.

@johnnycb09 My sincere apologies for derailing your thread with this, Johnny

say_it_slowly The worst prison is a closed heart

My first thought was to hold spent matches then I was wondering if it was meant to hold glass, like a hurricane. Or possibly to hold water for a few flowers.

Anyway, there is a similar shape shown in this listing that includes a match striker base so maybe that?

(yes ebay listing and I know they don't work most of the time)

Yes.......that was the point. I was demonstrating how you can copy the link text as posted, which then works if you paste into your browser manually. Or if you do click, how to manage digging the url out of the garbage string it re-routes to. The "Black screen" was intentional.

Lots of eBay urls were posted in the archives and I'm trying to help people with those. Using tiny url doesn't work for past links.
