I just bought this delicious Japanese lacquered incense box and wonder if more information can be obtained.

Unlike other boxes which are often signed directly on them or on the wooden box they come with, I have nothing with mine, only a small, ineligible mark on the back of the lid of the box it came in( yes two boxes here lol, just see pic). And these persimmons are made for probably a hundred years, tho style does change but you can’t tell much about the style based on the realism.

But it’s so sweet, and the best part of it is the barely visible line where the lid meets the base (or is there a professional word for it?)

what do you think? How old could it be?

No idea, but it needed shelf space in your house. Whoever made that deserves the credit.

The text in the instagram post? It has enough Chinese characters in it so I don’t really need translation to understand it. The maker’s name is all written in Chinese characters/kanji

IMG_0638.jpeg IMG_0639.jpeg IMG_0640.jpeg IMG_0641.jpeg IMG_0642.jpeg So I have gathered a few more examples… you can see although they all aimed for realism, the style is quite different. That’s why it leads me to believe that mine can be attributed to the maker mentioned by that instagram post:oops:haven’t found another one like this
