White Vase? with Cranes?

    Anyone know what this white glaze ornament or vase is? It has a mark on the bottom. The glaze seems very thick. Measurements is 22.5cm tall, bottom is 12.5cm x 8cm Depth of base rim is 4mm or so.

    I also think ducks. Aren't a pair of ducks a symbol of long marriage in Chinese lore?

    You might look up Dehua, or Blanc de chine. You just might have something there.

    cranes mate for life...most ducks do not.

    and ducks have short legs & webbed feet ...these ain't ducks....:p

    Yes, "blanc-de-chine" - white porcelain - a style of porcelain traditionally made in Dehua in Fujian province for centuries. The birds are probably intended to be red crowned cranes, a symbol of longevity and fidelity.

    Such figures are still being made. Examples of antique Dehua porcelain can be quite valuable, but it would need to be distinguished from the modern versions.
