I had a garage sale earlier this year where I had tapes for 10 cents a pop. No biters, so the Vietnam Vets got them.

I covered that pay-it-forward for you!
I was at a garage sale where an almost certain, struggling, single Mom with little kids was selling all the tapes because the VCR quit.
I told her put them back in the garage and I'd find her a VCR.
Not 2 sales later.................... $5 VCR!
    WOW was SHE surprised. :)

I have dozens of VHS tapes and a few box sets, I have a good quality Sony VHS player working alongside a DVD recorder and BlueRay in my bedroom.
I still have some BetaMax with home recordings of the kids when they were young.
Its not possible to record TV onto blanks in the UK anymore as all signals are digital and not analogue.

We cleared out an attic few months back and recovered over 2000-3000 VHS tapes, we gave them away.

in order to record you have to rca it from the digital to the vcr keep vcr on ch 3 but I can hook up anything to anything , I'm an electronics tech. dvd has to have a modulator in between to record to vhs, and i can record from my vhs to my computer using an ati all in wonder tv card which allows me to watch and record tv on my computer

What he said. You can most definitely record to both DVD and tape still here.

Somewhere in this house there's a VHS tape of a film called "The People" with William Shatner. Never released commercially, so worth money. I've copied it to DVD though.

Most VHS video recorders in the UK don't have Freeview, so will only be able to record if they're connected to a digital set-top box (Freeview, Sky, Virgin, BT Vision, etc) via a SCART lead.

Yes it can be done but why ? who the heck has set top boxes these days.

Most DVD recorders record to either disc or hard drive and UK Sky has hard drives that record multi channels simultaneously in HD.
