I thought this was copper with a nice patina, but maybe it's bronze?

Any ideas where it comes from? India?

Measures appt 5" tall and 6" wide (12.5x15).

    Thanks!

My first thought was: ‘Not old’ How heavy is it? The lip looks unusually think to me. The colour and shine makes me think of something that was sprayed (but I don’t really know)

    Two dents, actually.

Yeah, the striations made me think machine-made, of course; there's also what appears to be a weld on the inside, between the body and the base???

It is actually quite thick, and heavy.

I think nice home decor, brass, made in India. Very nice shape.

Such striations are often evidence of the forming process - spinning sheet metal on a lathe.

They indicate (to me) that the vessel, or a portion of it, was spun into its form. Copper an' brass (bronze too, probably) can both be fashioned in that way. I don't know how old that process is, but it can easily have been available to artisans for several centuries.
The shape of that vase (if that's what it is) is classic, very attractive.
I see now that Books has sniped my revelation...sigh.
