Nice decanter, @wlwhittier -- It's amazing to me when something made of glass makes it through life for over 60 years with no damage. You must take good care of your possessions.

 

Ditto Fig-It's had a stellar chain of Curators for the last 200 hundred-odd years.

 

I try to...but I have damaged a very few, mostly glassware. I use these old things, some of them daily...an' over the years there have been chips an' breakages. I weep, resolve to try harder, an' move on.

 

When we talk about glass items surviving 60+ years and are amazed by it, I think of what was on 60 Minutes last night. A glass drinking vessel was discovered nearly intact from the gardens of Caligula's mansion, around 30something a.d.!!! That is really amazing!
