I got this at a recent flea market where I was also a seller. I had it sitting on the table and a guy who came by told me his opinions about it:

    -it's 100-110 years old
    -the clay is unusual
    -it's likely from Ohio (USA)
-it's likely from the Muskingum River area

If anyone will add to / correct / verify any of that, I'll be so very appreciative.

    Thank you!

    8.25" / 21cm tall

the variations in the burgundy glaze are more pronounced in certain angles of light

My notes, which I wrote down right after he left:

He told you all that and didn't try to buy it? Funny fellow! :joyful: That is a pretty, deep glaze.

I live in Ohio, but don't know much about pottery. There is one distinguishing characteristic of the pottery from around here. It is always yellow, like the bottoms of Roseville (Ohio) pottery. When the fellow said Muskingum River, he meant one of the Zanesville potteries from around Zanesville Ohio. The potteries I'm aware of from there are Roseville Pottery, Weller Pottery, Nelson McCoy, J.B. Owens Pottery. There might be some others. I can't really tell from the photos what color the pottery is. Hopefully, someone who is better at this will come along.

    Thanks Whit!

    Thanks @ola402! Go Buckeyes!

The vase is a deep, burgundy red. In low light it almost looks black. Sorta purple I guess. But in direct, overhead light those variations in the red are clear.

Maybe I'll tag @Joe2007 too-- I think he may be an Ohioan as well
