Similar ones on line are listed to be 20th century ( but those are 2 handled and the bases are different) Size is 7cm across,4cm high and the base is 3cm wide. So is 20th century quite possibly correct? Thank you

Ash tray? What a great color, that green!

Thanks for the reply. Good guess that. I was thinking it’s not very practical for
a ashtray. The cigarette placement/holder is very small and shallow and it will be a real balancing act. But maybe? But I agree that colours are great.

i've seen similar ciggy placements (is that what we're calling them?:)) on other guilloche astrays, think i've got one somewhere that is too damaged to sell

thinking this would be classified as guilloche as well

i think its (yours)placement might have been bent back , should be straight ;)

interesting piece indeed, not totally convinced chinese though, maybe, haven't seen one like it, pattern looks chinese

The engraving that forms the base of guilloche enamel is geometric and engine turned.;) Boland's Chinese ashtray is simply enameled. The metal is engraved by hand to show detail in the floral motifs.

ya reckon the placement might have been more like this to hold the ciggy better

They probably used the basic shape for different purposes.

Must be. But I still can find a similar ashtray (so far) So it is a unique little thing. Maybe this was original meant to also be a cup? Anyway, thanks AJ

Thanks for the photo and comments Charlie. Interesting little thing indeed. Placement part is pretty sturdy and fixed. I really can’t easily bend it (without potentially snapping it off) It is also very well worn (which is interesting) Personally I wonder if it was not used as a thumb rest and a cup (but that’s just my opinion) It was only a $1 and I will be keeping it (so no worries either way) Thanks again for the interest.

Not at all. Any opinion is always welcome. Thanks for the reply :).. Besides I sometimes feel I should really just ignore myself, before buying some of the stuff I buy.
